Khewat / Khatauni

Khewat number is the ownership account in the Jamabandi — it groups together all the khasra numbers owned (jointly or individually) by a particular set of co-owners, and states each owner's fractional share. Khatauni number is the linked cultivation account, listing who actually tills that land (which may or may not be the same as the owner).
One person can appear under several Khewats if they own land in different parcels with different sets of co-owners. This is the number used for share calculations — 'my share in Khewat 112' is a precise, legally meaningful statement in a way 'my share of the village' is not.

खेवट नंबर जमाबंदी में मालिकाना खाता है — यह किसी विशेष सह-मालिक समूह के स्वामित्व वाले (संयुक्त या व्यक्तिगत) सभी खसरा नंबरों को एक साथ जोड़ता है और प्रत्येक मालिक का आंशिक हिस्सा दर्शाता है। खतौनी नंबर उससे जुड़ा काश्त खाता है, जो बताता है कि उस भूमि पर वास्तव में खेती कौन करता है (जो मालिक से अलग भी हो सकता है)।
एक ही व्यक्ति कई खेवटों के अंतर्गत आ सकता है यदि उसकी ज़मीन अलग-अलग टुकड़ों में अलग-अलग सह-मालिकों के साथ हो। हिस्से की गणना इसी नंबर पर आधारित होती है — 'खेवट 112 में मेरा हिस्सा' कानूनी रूप से एक सटीक बयान है, जबकि 'गाँव में मेरा हिस्सा' नहीं।

ਇੱਕੋ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਕਈ ਖੇਵਟਾਂ ਅਧੀਨ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਟੁਕੜਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਸਹਿ-ਮਾਲਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਵੇ। ਹਿੱਸੇ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਇਸੇ ਨੰਬਰ 'ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ — 'ਖੇਵਟ 112 ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ' ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਸਟੀਕ ਬਿਆਨ ਹੈ, ਜਦਕਿ 'ਪਿੰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ' ਨਹੀਂ।
